I can still hear FDR's voice: "December 7th, 1941, a day that will LIVE in imfamy...". but it also happens to be one of my aunt's birthday, my Dad's sister, Evelyn. I really liked her, but as I recall she was two years younder than my Dad, who would be 90 this year, and he has been long gone. I'm sure that she is dead too. It must have been hard to have today as a birthday during the War and after.

I am doing this in medit. Even though it supports HTML it doesn't fork a browser and it doesn't seem to do checks on markup rules, at least as far as I can tell. This editor allows one to set syntax for a bunch of programming and scripting languages, and web markup, including XML.

It does seem to do some markup syntax checks. And I was able to set some simple style, green text on a light green background with some percentage right and left margins. I changed the text color of this pargraph to blue. Medit does mark the syntax colors as you edit. I am confidant that it would leave bad syntax marked when you save.

Medit allowed me to insert the date and time above, and it asked me to set the desired format.

In two weeks Sylvia Bryan will be 61, and the day before I will be 63, my sister Sharon will be 64 on the day before that (the 19th). My sister Janis would have been 62 in a month but obviously she didn't make it to that milestone. Bobbi got me a pair of slippers for my birthday, but she gave them to me yesterday because it was so cold. They do help. I am sure the floor is cold today, but my feet aren't.

Building web pages on Google Tools

I first heard about Google's complete Tools suite when I got a DVD containing them with an Ubuntu 9.04 bundle, that is the tools inside an Ubuntu image that you can boot live and test. Rather than install it, I decided to look for the tools in the packages I could get for what I have installed already (Ubuntu 8.10) and found most of them. Since I have Gmail, I could login into my account on Google and go off and use the tools. They do most of what I want to do, the only possible exception is xslt with XML. I was able to upload a couple of pages I wrote here, with a couple of overrides to preserve style. The only problem I've seen is that one can create individual documents meant for more than just web pages, but the file names are awful, and so linking to your web page is painful.
