As I speak the media are probably beginning to tally the results of the
Special Election of today, the polls closed at 8 p.m. The election was
unnesessary and cost the people about $50 million. I hope that most of
the eight measures are defeated. I voted "yes" on measure 79, the one
that makes a perscription drug purchasing plan for the state's 4 million
MEDICAL clients manditory for the major drug companies. I voted this way
when this morning I found that large ammounts of money had been spent for
"pro" Proposition 78 and "no" Prop. 79. From the political ads which got
extremely tiresome in the past few days, it was clear the the drug companies,
the HMOs and Doctors supported the other plan in Prop. 78 that made compliance
with a drug purchase scheme voluntary by the corporations. They clearly
favored it because it would net them more profits and control, and they
feared the leverage in the other plan. That is why I voted for it. I
voted against every other measure. I also excluded any candidate for local
office whose background said "businessman".
